Kickstart Scheme.

Government funding to create new job placements for young people.
Foodchain are working with Food & Drink businesses across the country in helping those out of work to start & continue their careers using the Government’s recently announced Kickstart Scheme, enabling employers to offer 6-month job placements for 16-24-year-olds, with their wages paid by Government for up to 25 hours per week.

Kickstart Scheme Details.

What Is Kickstart?

The Kickstart Scheme is available for companies to create new 6-month job placements, across any area of their business.

The job placements created need to encourage the young workers between 16-24 year olds to develop skills & experience that will be useful to them in the jobs they apply for & undertake after the placement.

Job Placement Requirements.

The Kickstart roles created must be:

  • Newly created roles (not replacing any employees made redundant or placed on Furlough)

  • A minimum of 25 hours per week, for 6 months

  • Paid at least the National Minimum Wage for their age group

  • Should not require participants to undertake extensive training before they begin the job placement.

Funding Available.

Funding available for each job will cover:

  • 100% of National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, for a total of 6 months.

  • The associated employer National Insurance contributions

  • Employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.

  • Additional funding to cover Admin, Training & Support costs.

Are You Eligible?

Any organisation, regardless of size, can apply for funding. However, the scheme has not been created with small businesses front of mind. Despite recently removing the 30 job minimum requirement, the process can be quite time consuming to manage, from the application stage to building an effective process with the Job Centres to attract and hire the right candidates.

The benefit of partnering with Foodchain to help manage your Kickstart application, is that we not only support and advise you on how to apply to the Kickstart Scheme but we also use our recruitment experience & HR training to provide further support throughout the programme to meet all the funding criteria.
