THE COMPANY:
Helen Browning’s Organic is a values-led food business built on the belief that good food starts with good farming — and that commercial discipline is essential for long-term sustainability.
The business farms responsibly, produces high-quality organic meat, and sells in a way that respects animals, people and the long-term health of the operation. Decisions are grounded in margin, carcass balance and long-term relationships, with a strong emphasis on honesty, practicality and problem solving.
THE ROLE:
Helen Browning’s Organic is looking for a hands-on Sales Manager to take real ownership of retail and wholesale sales and support sustainable, profitable growth.
This is a proper selling role. The successful candidate will be in front of buyers, opening doors, negotiating, following opportunities through — and at times pulling on wellies to show people where the food actually comes from.
There is no sales team in place, so the role requires someone comfortable doing the work themselves, from first conversation through to signed business.
The commercial challenge is clear:
1. Double sausage and trim sales within 12 months
2. Secure at least one major retail listing or export deal
3. Sell in a way that genuinely supports whole-carcass balance, not just headline volume
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
💬 Selling & New Business
Win new listings and grow distribution (especially sausage and trim-led lines), focusing on the right opportunities, not just the obvious ones
Build and convert a focused, realistic pipeline, leading negotiations on price, volume, promotions and listings
🤝 Key Account Management
Own and develop relationships with Ocado, Abel & Cole and Amazon Fresh, managing range reviews, promotions and forecasts
Balance competitiveness with margin, building long-term buyer trust through delivery, honesty and product knowledge
🎪 Trade Shows, Events & Buyer Hosting
Use trade shows and events as selling tools, preparing thoroughly and following up to convert conversations into business
Confidently host buyers on the farm, equally comfortable in meetings or standing in a field in wellies
🥩 Food, Carcass Balance & Commercial Discipline
Sell with whole-carcass balance front of mind, prioritising sausages, trim and secondary cuts
Avoid chasing volume that creates operational issues, showing genuine interest in food quality and how it’s made
🧠 Internal Collaboration & Problem Solving
Work closely with Operations and Finance on availability, pricing, margin and promotions
Take ownership of decisions, solving problems and being accountable for the commercial impact of deals
ABOUT YOU:
This role will suit someone who:
Is comfortable pulling on wellies and hosting buyers on the farm
Has a genuine interest in food and farming
Is a practical, commercially minded problem solver
Is straight-talking, organised and resilient
Is motivated by doing things properly, not by job titles
